Kingston, Jamaica — The NBA’s Utah Jazz’s Raul Neto and Minnesota Timberwolves’ assistant Coach Ed Pinckney made appearances at the start of the T&T leg of the 2017 Digicel NBA Jumpstart Basketball Camps at the Centre of Excellance, Mocoya, yesterday.

In partnership with giant telecommunication pro­vider Digicel, the National Basketball Association (NBA) returned to the Caribbean for the third con­secutive year. The T&T leg which started yesterday will run until Tuesday, and the camp will moved to Jamaica from August 10-12.

Center Romaro Gill Signs to Play Hoops at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (AP) Junior college transfer Romaro Gill has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Seton Hall.

Coach Kevin Willard announced the move Tuesday, noting that the 7-footer from Jamaica has two years of eligibility remaining.

Gill played the last two seasons at Vincennes University in Indiana, averaging 5.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season while shooting 56 percent from the field. He ranked 10th in the National Junior College Athletic Association in blocked shots with 85.

Vincennes posted a 32-3 record last season.

Mavisville Preparatory emerged winners of the prep schools division of the Southern Conference mini basketball tournament held at the Breezy Castle courts. Mavisville went unbeaten winning all five games in their division.
Emanuel Christian Academy who won four of their five games, where runner up.

Defending and many times champions Holy Family primary “A” team won the primary schools division defeating Holy Family “B” 18-2 in the primary division after both teams had won their respective zones in the preliminary round.

The tournament was played in a round-robin format in the prep schools division with the schools accumulating the most wins declared the winner. In the primary division the teams were divided in two zones with the winners of each zone meeting in the finals.

Jamaica hold off Trinidad for second straight win 72-64

Jamaica held off a fighting Trinidad and Tobago squad for a 72-64 win in the final game of Tuesday night’s action when the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) male under-16 Championship continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana.

Jalen Menzies and Samora Williams were once again the biggest influence in the game with the former heating up in the second half to keep the Trinidadian squad at bay.

Menzies finished with 23 points and six steals while Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds in the game. Jabari Cunningham also contributed 11 points.

CBCU16 – Williams, Menzies lead Jamaica to OT win over Suriname

Jamaica rode the hot hands of Sheveron Williams and Jalen Menzies to pull off a 80-67 come from behind win in overtime when the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) male under-16 championship continued on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana.

Jamaica trailing throughout the entire game finally took the lead in the fourth quarter with four minutes remaining.

However, Menzies would hit one of two free throws with 18.6s left in game to send the thriller to overtime.

Menzies followed his clutch free throws with a three-pointer to open overtime followed by a mid-range jumper from Williams to give Jamaica the lead that they never relinquished thereafter.
