CS Phoenix Galati signs Vashil Fernandez on 1 year Contract

The ink is still wet on his new 1 year deal with CS Phoenix Galati as Jamaican big man, Vashil Fernandez has decided to take his talents to Romania.

Vashil averaged 5.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as senior with Valparaiso; he remains the university’s leading shot blocker.
Last season Fernandez spent 2016-2017 season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Greensboro Swarm in the NBA G-League.

Kingston, Jamaica — Florida State University’s CJ Walker (right) powers ahead of Tyrone Lattibeaudiere of the Jamaica select team during their preseason basketball game at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Monday Night.

Minto 79ers, a Jamaica select basketball team, suffered a big 116-78 defeat against the touring Florida State University (FSU) at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Monday night.

After a close first quarter that had the tourists leading 22-19, the game became a one-sided affair with FSU outplaying the Jamaica select team for the remainder of the contest.

By half time FSU were in command at 54-34 before closing out the game easily.

Kingston, Jamaica — The NBA’s Utah Jazz’s Raul Neto and Minnesota Timberwolves’ assistant Coach Ed Pinckney made appearances at the start of the T&T leg of the 2017 Digicel NBA Jumpstart Basketball Camps at the Centre of Excellance, Mocoya, yesterday.

In partnership with giant telecommunication pro­vider Digicel, the National Basketball Association (NBA) returned to the Caribbean for the third con­secutive year. The T&T leg which started yesterday will run until Tuesday, and the camp will moved to Jamaica from August 10-12.

Sad News – Walk Good Sefton!

Montego Bay, Jamaica — The entire basketball fraternity is in mourning today as Basketball Jamaica has received confirmation of the passing of Sefton Lawrence.

Our hearts are broken by this sudden, unexpected loss.

Sefton died yesterday after succumbing to complications stemming from his long bout with diabetes, glaucoma and high blood pressure.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this time.

Kentan Facey Signs to Play in Greece

Trikala Basketball Club announced the signing of Kentan Facey.

 

The Jamaican finished high school in the US and then attended the Connecticut Huskies (UConn) and in his first year there was a member of the NCAA-winning team in 2014.

 

He closed his senior season with Connecticut in 33 games, with an average 8.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists.
