Jamaica Departs for U16 Caribbean Basketball Championship
Kingston, Jamaica, – Jamaica Basketball Association, Under 16 Male
Basketball Team, participates in the 2016 Caribbean Basketball Championship to be held
Jamaica’s Under 16 Men’s Basketball Team will depart Kingston Jamaica, on Thursday
June 30, 2016, courtesy of Fly Jamaica, to participate in the Caribbean Basketball
Championship to be held in Georgetown, Guyana, from Saturday July 2, 2016 to Saturday
July 9, 2016. Guyana will host nine (9) countries for the Competition. Teams will be
placed in two (2) Groups. Jamaica has been drawn in Group B and will face Aruba,
Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago. The Teams drawn in Group A are Antigua &
Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Barbados & Dominica. The Team will return to
the Island on Sunday July 10, 2016.
Jamaica has not participated in this Championship since 1998 and the JBA recognizes
this as a huge step for the development of youth Basketball in Jamaica. The Team has
been through rigorous training for over two (2) months. They are ready and revving to go
and “JAMINATE”, and are confident that they will be victorious.
Our Under 16 Team will comprise 12 players – 9 Local and 3 Canadian based. They will
be escorted to Guyana by:- Tarry Upshaw, Head Coach; Lennox Lindo and David Black,
Assistant Coaches; Mr. Poyser, Video Personnel; and Dr. Mark Broomfield, Head of
Delegation/Manager & President of JaBA.
