Kingston, Jamaica – Opening night of the inaugural JamRockerz Classics saw the visiting Libertyville Vipers come from behind to topple our surging young Under 21 stars in a race to wire.
With home court advantage in their favor and up-tempo crowd cheering them on the U21 jumped to a 8 point lead (16-8) at the end of the 1st quarter and by half-time they increased the lead to 10 (38-28).
The third quarter saw the U21 widening the gap between themselves and their visitors compliments of some solid defense and offensive execution. At the end they held a commanding 60-43 lead.
However, Vipers begun to show their experience and resilience as they slithered their way back into contention, and that they did behind key plays from Morris Roberts, Tomblin Yurio and Zack Pick. They begun to capitalize on the inexperience of the U21 who made mistakes, allowing them to regain control and ultimately winning the game 80-74.
Roberts bagged 18 points, Pick added 17 while Yurio scored 16 along with seven assists.
The U21 scoring was led Rolando McKenzie with 16 points. He snatched 4 steals along with 4 assists. He received support from D’Andre Forbes who made 13 points.
The U21 will be in action again on Saturday at 5PM versus the Business House Association Allstars and at 7PM, Vipers will aim to maintain winning form over the Guyana Jaguars who lost their first encounter against the Jamrockerz in last night’s second game.
